Me, the once active and happy go lucky person being a housewife… issit by choice or by circumstances?
Well, this is how the story goes…
I was holding a Singapore PR and decided to further my studies in Australia after working for about 8 years in Singapore. Met my hubby shortly after I decided to study . He was still doing his MBA in NUS then. We started going out when the uni was processing my application. I got through so I have to go ahead or else I will be too old…
I spent almost 2 years there while maintaining a LDR (long distance relationship). We are thankful to technology as it has helped us in one way or another… (who says LDR is tough and impossible?)
Hubby stayed on in Singapore after graduation for another year but did not manage to secure a good job since the economy was not doing so well. He decided to get a job back home… He then landed on a job in his hometown… on the little island up north… Pearl of the Orient.
After I completed my studies, I did not go back to Singapore since hubby, my then boyfriend is in Malaysia. So, I decided to look for a job in KL and found one which is near my parents’ place. Worked there for 8 months and decided to quit when hubby proposed… not really propose… more like agreed that age is catching up and we should start a family soon.
While needing sometime to plan, I got an offer from my ex boss in Singapore and agreed to work for half a year for her. Also want to use the opportunity to extend my PR. Too bad I only got extension of 1 year since I work less than a year.
We got married on 5th March 2005 and we are blessed with our first child on 21st November 2005. After calculation, we actually conceived on our wedding nite!
My pregnancy was a very tough one… I have extremely bad morning sickness since week 6 when I was on my way to Oslo with hubby for our honeymoon. It was so embarrassing that I threw up till I can practically sit next to the throne at my friend’s place.
My morning sickness did not stop till I approach my 20th week.
So, I can’t go to work if I have a job… my boss will probably fry-me-cuttlefish since I can barely sit or walk. Does this consider as circumstances?
When my Lil’ Monkey arrived, I don’t have anyone to help me to take care of him so I have to do the job myself. My MIL travels so very often and my mom is far away. Well, it was a case of ‘horse dead, go down on the ground and walk’. Does this considered as circumstances?
Now that my Lil’ Monkey is 2.5 years old and I can actually put him in a childcare so I can return to the work force. But then, my hubby felt that he is still too young to be sent to school. Being the fussy me, I can’t leave him in someone else care until I can find a good place… So, does this considered as choice?
Since I have decided to pursue my passion in baking and be an entrepreneur, I started a home business selling cupcakes. Business is brisk and I only take in small orders since I am handling my Lil’ Monkey alone. Is this a case of choice?
And the sum… it is a 50:50 of choice and circumstances.
Actually I quite like being a housewife… at least I get to eat and spend on other’s expense! ![]()
