Have I failed?

MIL’s birthday is tomorrow but she is leaving for Sandakan for a week long holiday later and won’t be back till next Sunday. Since she is celebrating her 60th birthday, I told my hubby we should treat her a neal before she leave.

We decided to go for Chilis @ G Hotel.

Everything was fine until the candle blowing session. My boy, who is ever so posessive and demanding refused to sing the birthday song and insist that he wanted to blow the candle. We told him it is his grandmother’s birthday so grandmother should be the one blowing the candle. Upon hearing this, he screamed even louder and attracted stares from neighboring tables.

We told him to go sit with his grandmother so he could blow the candle together but he cried even louder and this really provoked hubby. Feeling extremely annoyed, hubby pull the monkey up and took him out of the restaurant while the boy was screaming his lungs out. On the way out hubby slapped the boy… it looked like a forceful slap but I asked him later on he said it was just a slight one.

I felt bad as the scene was quite embarrassing since everyone was looking at our table and had a ’sly’ smile on their face. I know deep down inside they must be thinking what kind of parents to have brought up such a spoilt kid.

Have I really failed as a mom? or have we failed as parents?

Hubby blamed me for giving in to the boy all the time… which made him so possessive and demanding. I don’t think I gave in to the boy all the time but hubby does as he spoil the market most of the time by allowing the boy to do things which I disallowed.

*sigh*
